Jack has been doing his ABC's and 123's for a few months now but there are a few things he's learned that I wanted to document.
*He says The Pledge of Allegiance (which he must have learned at MDO).
*He knows his shapes (squares, triangles, circles).
*He sings songs like Twinkle Twinkle, Jesus Loves Me, Deep and Wide, and Take me out to the Ballgame, We Wish You a Merry Christmas
*He knows his colors.
*He spells his name (but sometimes forgets the 'a').
*He introduces himself to people as "Jack Thomas Olson".
*He knows landmarks example: Home Depot, Sonic, Hobby 'Wobby', 'Miss' Donald's :)
*He also memorized his first long scripture.
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight".

Not a "mom-ish" thing
I've been thinking lately about how the first 18 yrs of my life pretty much revolved around sports. Competitive sports. I was able to continue that even in college through a competitive intramural program at Baylor. But--becoming a mom brought all that to a screeching halt. Some people are born crafty, musical, intellectually gifted, or humorous...all of which can be continued in some form or fashion throughout every stage in life. But my thing is sports (specifically sports you play with a ball which excludes running) and as a female adult/mom there is not much time/opportunity for me to do what I love. I have taken up running in the last few years because that's about as close as I get to competitive sports these days. I guess I'll just have to wait to be one of those crazy parents who lives through their child's 4 yr old soccer team:) Just kidding of course! On a positive note there is a basketball hoop in my driveway.
Ahh the memories. Our team actually made it to the National Flag Football championship
in New Orleans. Good times.

*Erik thought that post sounded so depressing...so I guess should say of course I LOVE being a mom WAYYY more than I would love to play in a basketball league:)

Conversations with Jack
We were eating dinner the other night and all the sudden Jack (our TWO year old) says:
"May I be excused?"
we let him leave the table because of the polite way he asked ;)
The other day we asked Jack who made the stars. He said "mom and Jesus"! ha.
He was sick last week so instead of putting him in the church nursery we decided to take him to the service on Sunday. He kept saying "I go to the nervice (service) and sing songs and pway (pray) and I not yell in the nervice".
We had a babysitter come over and Jack told her "daddy and mommy go on a hot date"!
And the last thing....the mailman came to the door to deliver a package and Jack (pantsless) runs to the door and says:
"Hi mailman. I Jack Thomas Olson. How are ya? I good. I like your truck, mailman. Thank you mailman!!"

What was Jack doing at 9 months?
Walking. Jack was walking at 9 months! Now that I have sweet Jacob I realize so much of what Jack did was NOT normal! I am amazed to go back and look at pictures. I am hoping Jacob at least waits a few more months and is content with crawling for a while. I'll do a little 9 month post for Jacob this week!Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Chest Grass
Today's funny conversation with Jack.
Jack: "Daddy, why do you have grass on your chest?
Erik: "hahahaha" (knowing he was talking about hair)
Jack: "I not have grass on my chest".

Losing Weight 101
In the past few days I've seen lots of blogs giving weight loss advice. I thought I'd share a few things that you can do to lose weight (in my experience, of course).
1. Get your wisdom teeth out.
2. Have 2 young children that keep you so busy you think going for a jog is 'relaxing'.
3. Live in a city that doesn't have Gloria's.
Good luck!

Encouraging weekend
Most of you know that Erik and I have been having a really hard time meeting people around our age here Edmond. I think that saying I've had a hard time since we moved would be a major understatement. We haven't joined a church, we haven't found any kind of small group, I haven't done any playgroups, and in general we have just been discouraged that this is taking sooo long. We both consider ourselves outgoing people so we were surprised when things didn't just happen naturally here for us. Last week we were invited to a small group that we tried and some people we met there invited us to their "sunday school" class on Sunday. We'd been visiting this church for almost 6 months and somehow we never found this group. BUT much to our DELIGHT we walked into the room and there were about 14 couples who were in their mid to late twenties and all had kiddos or a kiddo on the way! I almost started to cry. The moms meet almost every Wednesday for a little playgroup. I have never been more excited to hear people talk about dirty diapers and spit up. I know many of you have been praying that I would find friends and get plugged in to something so THANK YOU. Hopefully those prayers are beginning to be answered.

Too cool for school
Well I must say I've never heard of canceling school just because the weather is "too cold". But on Wednesday they announced school was canceled here in OKC and Edmond on Thursday AND Friday just because of frigid temperatures. And since Jack's MDO follows Edmond schools his was canceled too. No moisture, no rain, no lingering water on the streets that could've turned to ice. No. Just "too cold". Interesting. The high yesterday was 15 and the wind chill was -10. We stayed inside. In fact, Jack hasn't been able to play outside since before Thanksgiving. There is still lots of snow on the ground from the blizzard that happened on Christmas Eve. I have no idea what to do with this "real" winter. We will be welcoming spring with open arms this year!

Growing boys.
I can't believe Jack has all of the sudden turned into this handsome little man who has actual conversations with me. I really can't believe that after 8 months of 'laying low'...Jacob has rolled over, crawled, started standing, started clapping, said mama and baba, and gotten his first 2 teeth!
